Zine Information

(apologies for occasionally speaking in third person or using “we”/”us”; it just feels weird speaking in first and using “I”)Is the zine for profit?
Yes.
Will the zine include NSFW content?
No, this zine will be SFW only. (Rating: G to T)
What is the theme of the zine?
“love stories”! Suna and Osamu and their love for each other. :>
Will the zine be canon only or AUs too?
Both are fine! As long as it suits the theme of “love stories”.
Can one mod handle all this alone?
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: the Mod info page has a little more detail on what can be expected in terms of experience and such, but Head Mod currently has a lot of time on her hands that she will be dedicating to Fox Tales zine, and she’s been around zines enough to know what she's getting into, and that it’s not a walk in the park—this is essentially running a small business. (Bonus: she runs a small business as her day job.) This is also coming off the back of the How to Love a Miya zine, of which she was also Head Mod, so a lot of the process is still fresh in her mind and she has a solid idea of what to expect, running this solo.
Will you be recruiting additional mods or mod interns?
Not at the moment, but Head Mod has not ruled out recruiting additional mods later in the zine process if she finds she really does need extra hands on deck. The zine is not looking for mod interns.
Will the mod be contributing?
Yes, the mod will be contributing.
Will there be guest contributors?
Yes! Here are our current contributors.
How many applicants will be accepted?
This zine has 8 writers, 5 merch artists, and 15 page artists.
How will contributors be compensated?
Every contributor will, naturally, receive a PDF copy of the zine. As for monetary and physical compensation: though I hesitate to promise it so early in the process (I have seen that Go Badly in the past), the first priority will be to provide all contributors with monetary compensation, as not everyone might want a copy of the zine+merch, especially with shipping as uncertain as it is in the COVID era. A full zine+merch bundle with shipping paid for will be a close second to this, provided the zine does well enough to cover everything. Contributors can expect more details a little later down the track.
What is the minimum age required for contributors?
Contributors must be at least 16 years old. If they wish to receive monetary compensation, they must have access to a Paypal account (a family member's or a friend's), otherwise they can choose to forgo their share of zine profits. If they wish to have the zine+merch bundle sent to them, they must be able to supply an address to post it to.
Will other ships be allowed in the zine’s content?
No other ships, please! We are here to share the SunaOsa love, but lots of people have different opinions on other pairings—so let’s just focus on SunaOsa. :>
Will other characters be allowed in the zine’s content?
Other characters are welcome, but only brief appearances are encouraged. The focus should preferably be on Suna and Osamu.
Will Atsumu be allowed in the zine’s content?
He will probably muscle his way into it, whether we like it or not.
Where will the zines be shipped from?
Australia (Victoria state) 🐨
Will you be accepting Group Orders?
Yes, group others will be welcome! However, Group Order Managers must be the ones to handle your country’s taxes/import fees/etc.
Will you ship to the U.K. and to Europe?
Yes! However, all VAT and other taxes and fees must be dealt with by the buyer. If in a Group Order, the U.K. or European country's Group Order Manager/s must be the one to handle VAT/taxes/fees. For individual buyers, if you need the zines packed in a certain way (eg. treated as a gift instead of a purchase), you must let the Head Mod know at the time of purchase. More information will be provided later on.
Will the zine have a CuriousCat?
The zine will not be opening a CuriousCat, but you can DM the Head Mod via the zine twitter with any questions you might have.
What are your methods of keeping in contact with contributors?
Primarily, we will be using Discord, but contributors can be contacted through email or DM if they prefer.
After the zine’s completion, can we post our piece/s on social media?
Absolutely! :>
What was your judging process like?
The judging process involved a blind judging process, and consisted of a panel of friends of the Head Mod who 1) the mod trusts very much to judge fairly and carefully, 2) know Haikyuu, 3) know SunaOsa, and 4) are not deeply involved in fandom and thus don’t get caught up in fandom drama. Two judges were assigned to each application.
The reason an external panel was used was mainly because a large number of applications was expected (and received), and the Head Mod would have perished if she had to handle all judging by herself. In the end, with the help of the judging panels’ thoughts, the final selection of contributors was up to the Head Mod.
Every step of the judging process was—and continues to be— anonymous. The judges do not know the names or details of the applicants; the judges’ identities will not be revealed at any stage; the judges also do not know who the other judges are.
This system has been used successfully before in some of the Head Mod’s previous zine projects (both with the Head Mod participating as a mod and as a judge).

Applications (Archived)

Where can I apply?
Applications have now closed! This Applications section will be archived after results have been emailed out.
Can I apply to be a writer and an artist?
Yes, you can apply to be a writer and a page/merch artist, but you’ll only be accepted for one role. Page artists may also be asked to be a merch pinch-hitter for the zine (if that’s something they are interested in).
Do I need to have SunaOsa pieces in my application?
It’s not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended that at least one of your application pieces feature SunaOsa. Otherwise your piece/s can feature just Suna or just Osamu, but an actual SunaOsa piece will give the zine a better idea of whether you'll be a good fit for it!
Do applicants need prior experience with zines?
No, prior experience with zines is not necessary.
Do Merch Artist applicants need prior merch-making experience?
No, prior merch-making experience is not necessary. If you are able to submit a sample in your application of merch you have done in previously, that is a plus, but it is not must.
Do I need to be fluent in English?
Fics and comics will be in English. However, for small text on page/merch illustrations, the mod can help you with small amounts of text re: spelling/grammar, and can also work to communicate with you if you are not so confident in your English. :>
Can I edit my application after submitting?
Yes, but make sure to do so before the deadline (September 8th; 11:59pm, AEST)!
Will you allow NSFW content in applications?
No explicit content will be allowed, but mildly suggestive content is okay. Please tag if you are unsure! For writers, SFW excerpts of your NSFW piece/s are also okay.
What is a “pinch hitter”?
A pinch hitter is someone we will call on if a contributor needs to drop out of the zine for whatever reason; the pinch hitter will replace them. This generally means the pinch hitter will have less time to submit a completed piece, but the Head Mod will work on a reasonable deadline with you.
What will your judging process be like?
The judging process will involve a blind judging process, and consist of a panel of friends of the Head Mod who 1) the mod trusts very much to judge fairly and carefully, 2) know Haikyuu, 3) know SunaOsa, and 4) are not deeply involved in fandom and thus don’t get caught up in fandom drama. Two judges will be assigned to each application.
The reason an external panel will be used is mainly because a large number of applications is expected, and the Head Mod will probably perish if she has to handle all judging by herself. In the end, with the help of the judging panels’ thoughts, the final selection of contributors will be up to the Head Mod.
Every step of the judging process will be anonymous. The judges will not know the names or details of the applicants; the judges’ identities will not be revealed at any stage; the judges will also not know who the other judges are.
This system has been used successfully before in some of the Head Mod’s previous zine projects (both with the Head Mod participating as a mod and as a judge).

Mod

Name: San
Pronouns: she/her
Twitter: naffnuffnice
Hello! My name is San, and I have been stuck in the SunaOsa abyss since 2017. I will be the Head Mod running Fox Tales. I plan on running this project solo.
My strengths lie in graphic design & layout work, but my zine experience is quite vast and involves co-ordinating with all the contributors, handling communications, and social media.
I am not going to lie and pretend that I have finance or shipping experience that specifically deals with zines, but I am confident that my real-life experience handling finances and shipping will be sufficient. (My day job involves running my own business as a freelance graphic designer who frequently works with print, and I have also spent some years trading in artist alleys of various local conventions.)
If it turns out that I really do need a hand with zine finances and/or shipping, I will recruit other mods later on.
My previous zine experiences are:
- "Our Summer"
— Aussies' HQ Zine (2016) ∙ (free e-zine; design & layout)
- "Satellites"
— MatsuHana Zine (2017) ∙ (free e-zine; solo modding)
- "Run!"
— Multi-Fandom Charity Zine (2017) ∙ (layout)
- "The Small Things"
— Inarizaki Zine (2018) ∙ (e-zine; design & layout)
- "Spark of Hope"
— Promare Charity Zine (2019–2020) ∙ (e-zine; design & layout)
- "How to Love a Miya"
— SakuAtsu&SunaOsa Zine (2020–present) ∙ (head mod; design & layout)
- "To The Top"
— HQ National Team Zine (2021–present) ∙ (design & layout)
🦊Previous Group Order experiences (as Group Order Manager):
- Haikyuu!! Official Artbook (complete)
- How to Love a Miya Zine (complete)
- Divine Favor Zine (complete)
- To The Top: HQ National Team Zine (awaiting arrival)

I'm looking forward to bringing you a wonderful SunaOsa zine! ♡
